"Walking... is how the body measures itself against the earth"
Rebecca Solnit, Wanderlust: A History of Walking.
'Embodied Cartographies', an inter-disciplinary series of events and exhibition focusing on walking as praxis, mark-making, language, performance, choreography, philosophy, wayfinding …
It is an invitation to artists to submit work that engages with the concept in innovative and original ways. I encourage work from a wide range of artistic practices (visual / performance art, writing, dance, sound, film etc.)
‘Embodied Cartographies’ will be a multi-faceted event. At the core will be an exhibition of work from a variety of artistic disciplines. With that will be a series of events including artists’ talks, presentations and a symposium.
The exhibition and events will bring together artists/writers/performers whose work considers the corporeality of walking with an interest in how the body engages with, documents, inscribes, marks, perceives and understands the walking act I am interested in an in-depth engagement with the subject and how the work can inform a sense of cartography as embodied.
Interested artists are invited to provide – as one PDF (or word) format document - a title and 250 word outline of the work you are submitting, low resolution examples of relevant work, a brief artist's statement of no more 500 words, plus a brief CV.
Email firstname.lastname@example.org to submit.
Deadline Monday 27 March 2017.
