Bath's Annual Fringe Visual Arts Festival
FAB is Bath's only visual arts festival, we actively promote and celebrate contemporary art in the Bath area and beyond, showcasing early career artists and curators, and those who find it difficult to break into (or prefer to operate outside of) the gallery based art scene.
Please help support FaB!

FaB is voluntary and non-profit, we're looking for donations, please support us if you can localgiving.org/charity/fringe-arts-bath, or get in touch if you are interested in sponsorship: info@fringeartsbath.co.uk

CALL OUT

Established modes and materialities of writing seem increasingly unstable, while collaborative, performative and digital methods are flourishing. How will a future of writing unfold?

In Other Words explores our evolving relationship with text, language and writing. Submissions are invited in any media, including installation, painting, sculpture, photography, audio and more. Performance or event-led practice is welcome, as are pieces of critical, creative and experimental writing, and work that engages or is initiated by groups from Bath and the surrounding area.

Please submit a written statement/proposal of up to 500 words, with documentation of previous work in images, video and weblinks. You can get in touch to discuss a proposal by emailing: fringeartsbath-inotherwords@yahoo.com. The deadline for submissions is Friday 15th February 2013.

Fringe Arts Bath will take place from Friday 24th May to Sunday 9th June 2013. The selected artists will each pay £12, which is put towards administration, publicity, exhibition openings and other costs of the project.

In Other Words is curated by Rowan Lear. You can keep up to date via the facebook page here, and below is where I'll be keeping a blog for In Other Words including quotations and ideas relevant to the theme.

between “word” and “thing”

IN OTHER WORDS: INSPIRATION

For all its powerful referential dimensions and its capacity to indicate and describe objects and experiences, language structurally entails certain gaps, between “word” and “thing,” between “meaning” and “intention,” which cannot be eliminated in even the most precise communicative act or philosophical proposition.

dangerous, unpredictable, living writing

IN OTHER WORDS: INSPIRATION

Academics in the humanities don’t yet know what to do with writing: real writing, dangerous, unpredictable, living writing, which can quickly turn on the arguments it is supposed to nourish and devour them.
