Bath's Annual Fringe Visual Arts Festival
FAB is Baths only visual arts festival, we actively promote and celebrate contemporary art in the Bath area and beyond, showcasing early career artists and curators, and those who find it difficult to break into (or prefer to operate outside of) the gallery based art scene.

A FaB Intervention

We will be following on from the success of A Fab Intervention 2016 in bringing performance and art to the streets of Bath. This year we are theming the event by inviting artists to submit their works in response to the artistic musings of the curators. We have considered what Bath means to us as contemporary creatives and created words, visuals, and music for you to respond to. These responses can be through any media you like. A FaB Intervention: Material Responses will be twofold:

1. A static exhibition to run the duration of FaB fortnight showcasing contemporary non-performative responses from selected artists.

2. A performance event on Saturday 27th May where selected interventionist artists and performers will share their disparate responses on the streets of Bath.

Interested? Email intervention@fringeartsbath.co.uk to submit now for A FaB Intervention: Material Responses and we'll send you your inspiration to get you started. Deadline Monday 27 March 2017.

Curated by Melanie Ezra, Tim Kelly, Ben Honebone.

Tim's Inspiration (2)

Here's a second installment from fellow curator Tim Kelly who has been drawing his own images to inspire your responses. This second ink and paper creation is titled "Flash of Cash Beau Nash".

Make of this what you will. In fact we insist you create, make, draw, sketch, perform as a response to the images and artwork we're providing here in these blog entries. Use our interpretations of Bath as your inspiration and email us with your submissions. We welcome artists of every variety. All we ask is that you tell us as much as possible about what is in your head and how you'd like to go about showing your Material Response.

We suggest you read our guidelines on our FaB Intervention here before submitting. It's also really important that you follow festival guidelines on submitting so that we can respond to your query so click here for more details on how to submit to Fringe Arts Bath

Follow the Signs

Fellow curator Ben Honebone has been considering longevity of materials and existence since his last visit to the historic streets of Bath. Ben is a multi-media artist and musician and he'd like any artistic response to this audio-visual artwork he recently created. The history of the city of Bath, in combination with a thriving contemporary materialistic culture, is a representative of the passage of time in human history. Whether this time is seen as a lnear progression, or as a constant, time periods are overlapped and intertwined in Bath just as they are in Ben's video for 'Follow the Signs'.

We would like you to create artworks as a response to Ben's audio-visual stimulus, or choose a picture from the library of images HERE to respond to. Get in touch with any questions. We'd love to hear what you're thinking about creating!

Material Responses

We'd like you to create art as material responses to photographs and artworks that we have created as a result of our experiences in Bath.

Take a look at the library of images below and choose your inspiration. Create us a piece of art in any medium for our static exhibition. Or consider a performative response to be performed on the opening weekend in Bath. Show us, share with us, and submit your work to us by 27th March for inclusion in this unique event.

Any questions give us a shout.
