Locus: ‘1. A place or locality. 2. In mathematics, the set of all points whose location is determined by a stated condition or conditions. 3. In genetics, the position on a chromosome of a particular gene or allele. [Latin locus place]’

FAB uses alternative venues to highlight and exploit the creative potential of using non-galleries for contemporary art. The location is almost as much a part of the viewer’s experience as the art work in it. And on a philosophical level, where does Bath place itself in relation to other cities in terms of contemporary culture? What are the stated conditions which determine where, and how, the contemporary is more prominent than the historical?

FAB’s second guest-curated exhibition, locus follows in the footsteps of last year’s successful pilot show [identity] which colonised the rambling former Postal Museum.

This year’s theme is ‘location’, which has also been adopted as an overarching theme for the whole programme.
