Run by Mark Fearbunce, Tombola Tombola reimagines the familiar fete game as an absurdly generous event where every ticket wins. Visitors pick a raffle ticket, but instead of the usual prize, they receive a small oil painting of that exact ticket: a carefully made facsimile of the chance object itself. By creating a tombola where losing is impossible, the work playfully unsettles the rules we usually accept around luck, reward and fairness.
Beneath its humour, Tombola Tombola questions the normalised absurdity of a society where some people are given better chances, asking why only some are allowed to be winners.
