Deep Time

Deep Time

Glacial Terrains [2/2] by Frank Waterton (2023)

The call-out to Artists:

"Deep Time" is an interdisciplinary exhibition that delves into the profound concept of time in all its forms, from the fleeting moments of everyday mundanity to the immense scales of geological history. This exhibition seeks to inspire contemplation on the diverse ways time influences our understanding of the world and our place within it. "Deep Time" is a journey through the past, present, and future, a celebration of the universal and timeless nature of the human experience.

The concept of "Deep Time" is rooted in the realisation that time extends beyond human comprehension, reaching into the distant past and far into the future. It is a concept that encompasses geology, cosmology, and human life, each with its unique perspective on the continuum of time. The exhibition aims to highlight the nuances of deep time by examining the interconnectedness of these different temporal scales and their impact on human perception.

"Deep Time" is an exhibition that transcends traditional boundaries and provides a thought-provoking experience for all ages and backgrounds. By exploring the myriad facets of time, from the geological to the personal, and the universal to the speculative, it aims to spark conversations about our place in the cosmos and the enduring impact of time on our lives and our shared histories.

The Night Worker by Richard Waterton (2020)

Curated by Frank Waterton and Richard Waterton

Richard Waterton is a London-based artist who specializes in moving image installations, employing 'slow cinema' techniques. While not directly autobiographical, his work reflects psychological anxieties, fears, and desires, anchored in familiar people and places. Waterton documents reality, altering its state to gain a personal understanding. His practice delves into the human experience, exploring stillness and altered realities within moving images.

Frank Waterton is an artist whose practice predominantly focuses on planetary surface, abstract imagery, and playing with the textural abilities of paint. In his works, he looks to create spaces for the viewer to employ as an environment for reflection and is inspired by our relationship to, and place within, the cosmos: how this interacts with our sense of self, history and mythology.
