Looking at art, feelings and responses to girlhood and the body, the exhibition looks at both the strength and vulnerability. It explores the inconsistencies that shape ‘girlhood’, considering the end of childhood and of play as the weight of the expectations of society come to bear on your body. From ribbons and swings, a pure and innocent absence of self-consciousness, to the pressure around weight and shape, goals and behaviour. Your autonomy is surrendered, your behaviour is expected to change, your own needs become secondary to the needs of others. Impossible standards are set, so girls will always fail.

aileen experiments across a range of materials and processes. She works in sculpture, painting and photography to probe the edges of our perceptions. She makes work that explores our chosen pathways, revealing new perspectives on spatial and temporal phenomena. aileenlyon.com / insta @aileenlyon

Sapphire works to create a comfortable space for discomfort, using kitschy femme aesthetics to dismantle preconceived notions and redefine traditional narratives from a queer, working-class perspective. By embracing and subverting these aesthetics, she aims to create work that invites dialogue and challenges unjust societal norms. sapphirehenriksen.com / insta @sapphirehenriksenart
