GIRLS + GUTS
The call-out to Artists:
Let’s make a beribboned bloody mess.
Investigating the themes around girlhood and the body, GIRLS + GUTS will encompass the full spectrum of girlhood. It will reflect the perspectives of ex-girls of all ages, looking backwards, inwards, and forward. The work will speak to the idea of reexamining that time: challenging the retroactive romanticisation of women's youth, engaging with personal memories, and society’s sexualisation and dehumanisation of the gilded girl-child.
We invite anyone who has experienced their own girlhood, whether or not they identify as women, to participate.
Curated by aileen lyon + Sapphire Henriksen
aileen experiments across a range of materials and processes. She works in sculpture, painting and photography to probe the edges of our perceptions. She makes work that explores our chosen pathways, revealing new perspectives on spatial and temporal phenomena. aileenlyon.com / insta @aileenlyon
Sapphire works to create a comfortable space for discomfort, using kitschy femme aesthetics to dismantle preconceived notions and redefine traditional narratives from a queer, working-class perspective. By embracing and subverting these aesthetics, she aims to create work that invites dialogue and challenges unjust societal norms. sapphirehenriksen.com / insta @sapphirehenriksenart
aileen and Sapphire find common ground in making a mess.
